Description
Canada stepped up its relief efforts, sending 2,000 Canadian Forces personnel to Haiti--nearly the same number of troops deployed to Afghanistan--along with search and rescue equipment, vehicles and medical supplies. "Once all our assets, platforms and personnel are in place, the Canadian Forces will have approximately 2,000 Canadian Forces personnel, seven helicopters and two ships contributing to rescue, recovery and reconstruction efforts in Haiti," said Defence Minister Peter MacKay in a news release.
